The Arts and Electives: Designing, Creating, Performing
Choir
There are two choirs at Immaculata, the Liturgical Choir, for grades 3-8 and the Junior Choir, for grades 1-2. The Liturgical choir meets after school on Mondays, from 3:00-3:45pm and sings at the weekly school Mass each Tuesday and the Morning Prayer each Friday. The Junior choir meets after school on Wednesdays, from 3:00-3:30, and sings at special times for the school Mass and Morning Prayer service. Both choirs sing at other Immaculata events, such as the Book Fair at Barnes and Nobel, and Graduation. In addition, students from the Liturgical Choir who would like to cantor at Mass meet for cantor training after school on Fridays, from 3:00-3:45pm.
Orchestra
Students who are able to play the music in the Gather hymnal are able to join Immaculata Orchestra. String players and woodwind players are featured. The Orchestra meets after school on Tuesdays from 3:00-3:45, and plays for Mass each Tuesday morning, as well as special Immaculata evetns, such as Graduation. In addition, guitarists and drummers are invited to play at Morning Prayer on Friday mornings; these students meet for special practices at times announced.
Drama
Each Spring, students in grades 5-8 are invited to prepare and perform in a drama production. The drama production involves many students as actors, stage crew members, set designers, and costume makers. Many parents and other volunteers also help out. In past years performances have including: Into the Woods, Scenes from A Midsummer’s Night Dream, The Wizard of Oz, A Thousand Cranes, Robin Hood and Thoroughly Modern Millie. We benefit from the partnership with our neighbor Emily Krzyzewski Family Life Center, the stage there has provided the perfect venue for recent Immaculata productions.
